Theatre designer uses lockdown closure period to create new exhibition in Northumberland town
An award-winning theatre designer is launching an exhibition in Wooler.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic closed down theatres a year ago, Neil Murray has been creating ‘Story Boxes’.
The idea grew out of his love for Victorian narrative paintings. Things are happening in these paintings and in the boxes; events unfold and clues are given but it is up to the viewer to make sense of the component parts and tell the story.
Neil is a former associate director and and designer at Dundee Rep and Northern Stage in Newcastle. He has also designed for shows by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Theatre San Frontieres, while he won various ‘best design’ accolades for ‘Brief Encounter’ in London and on Broadway.
The exhibition opens at Gallery @ No 6 on May 1. Everyone is welcome for coffee and to meet the designer from 10am to 4 pm.
The exhibition will then run until July 3 from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
