The Hut People bring world folk to Wooler
Champions of the standing ovation, The Hut People are an instrumental duo of accordionist Sam Pirt and percussionist Gary Hammond.
Together they perform a high-octane blend of global rhythms with British, Nordic and European folk music, formed and embellished with the driving accordion and a mind-boggling array of exotic percussion.

Hide AdAlison Lloyd Harris, who is chairman of the Glendale Festival team that is organising the show in partnership with Highlights Rural Touring scheme, said: “Great music aside, a show from The Hut People is filled to the brim with spontaneity, often hilarious patter and a 110 per cent commitment to getting the crowd involved.
“Audiences can expect feel-good dancing tunes, audience participation and humour aplenty, with some Quebecois foot percussion and dancing thrown in for good measure.”
Pirt and Hammond are well established musicians within the folk circuit, with extensive musical backgrounds, having been performed alongside acts such as The Beautiful South, Nina Simone, The Dubliners and Sharon Shannon, 422, Kathryn Tickell and Jez Lowe, as well as many other collaborations with jazz and pop.
Alison added: “We’ve never had a dull night with a Highlights show and The Hut People promise to make it extremely lively. Given Wooler folk’s fondness for the accordion, we’re expecting standing room only.”
