Council explains why installation of new Alnwick bike racks left such a mess

The bike racks have been installed at the Market Place, Narrowgate, bus station and playhouse but concerns were raised on social media about the state of the roads and pavements where the work had been carried out.
It is understood contractors had been brought in by Northumberland County Council to carry out the work.

Hide AdHowever, they were unable to finish it as planned due to the number of people around, notably on pedestrianised Narrowgate.
A council spokesman said: "Site staff had difficulty cleaning up from the installation process on the day due to the area being very busy which prevented the ability to pressure wash. The area has now been cleaned."
Alnwick Town Council has supported the installation of bike racks as part of its sustainable transport policy. It also agreed the locations.
