Issues have been reported across the county, from golden sandy beaches in the east to Northumberland National Park in the west, Ford and Etal Estates in the north to Northumberlandia in the south.
Elspeth Gilliland, tourism manager at Ford and Etal Estates, said: “We are saddened and disgusted by the behaviour of some of the visitors to our beautiful estate, and more particularly of those who have spent time by the river at Etal in recent days.

Similar concerns were aired by Ben Gilbert who helped collect several bags of rubbish left by visitors to Seaton Sluice beach on Saturday.
“An utter disgrace to the human race,” he posted on his Facebook page. “There’s only one thing that’s destroying our planet - and that’s us. Humans. We’re the pandemic.
“All this, in just one mile of walking along our beach. Who can leave the beach in this way, and why do so many people just walk on past it? What is wrong with everyone?”
