New book charts how Amble has developed
Amble Town Council has worked in conjunction with Amble in Old Photographs and the town’s history society to produce Amble Past and Present.
The book features a collection of then and now photographs, which run side by side to show how various parts of The Friendliest Port have developed over time. Some of the historic scenes date back to the early 1900s.

Hide AdIt is hoped that the book, which is on sale now, will prove popular, offering a nostalgic journey and helping to fund war-memorial repairs.
Amble Mayor Jane Dargue said: “The book provides an interesting historical record of the town and we wanted to use it to the town’s advantage by raising money for the war memorial.
“The war memorial was built using public subscriptions, so it seems fitting that people are now contributing towards the repairs.
“I know that Amble has changed so much over the years, but what struck me when looking at some of the pictures is just how much hasn’t changed and the old Amble is still very much here. That said, there are some old pictures which you look at and you say ‘wow, was that really there’.”
