Amble's Harbour Post Office on the move with retirement of long-serving postmaster

Susan Swinhoe’s branch on Percy Street will close on June 8 with the new branch opening in the nearby Nisa store the following day.
She said: “I want to thank each and every one of my fabulous customers who have supported me over the years. Some of them I knew when they were babies and now they have babies of their own. I will treasure my memories of my time as postmaster at Harbour Post Office.”

Hide AdSusan will be staying in Amble and is hoping to revert the current Post Office back to being part of her house, it was previously a sitting room. She is looking forward to spending more time with her daughter and her granddaughter.
Kenny Lamont, Post Office network provision manager, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.
"We really thank Susan for her loyal commitment to her community for the past 28 years.”
Opening hours at the new Post Office will be Monday to Friday: 8am – 7pm; Saturday & Sunday: 9am – 4pm – offering 69 hours of services a week.

Hide AdThis will be an additional 46 hours of Post Office service than currently offered, including opening all-day Friday and Sunday, plus Saturday afternoon.
It will also mark an end to lunchtime closing.
The branch will also open significantly earlier and it will close much later every day.
