An Alnwick woman was so moved at the plight of Australian wildlife in the bushfires that she organised a fund-raiser.

Becca Allan, who owns Bex Boutique on Bailiffgate, held a charity event in the salon on Sunday and raised £2,060.

“We’re really pleased, “ said Becca. “It’s a fantastic total, way more than we could have dreamed of.”

Becca and her team did 12 hours back-to-back hair treatments, blowdrys and gel nails with all proceeds going to WIRES wildlife rescue fund.

A raffle with more than 30 prizes from local businesses and clients swelled funds, while Becca donated a hamper.

“When I saw all the coverage of the devastating bushfires it affected me,” said Becca.

“I wanted to do something and realised it would have a much bigger impact if I used the business as a platform and got everyone to provide a helping hand.”
