Berwick Middle were given four Saxons players for the morning coaching session who were winger Tom Briggs, a Bath prop forward; Nick Woods, the Gloucester hooker; Rob Buchanan of London Harlequins and centre George Lowe, also of London Harlequins. The Berwick boys were put though a skills/tacking session plus the old fashioned press ups for an hour before a schools festival.

In the festival Berwick played Kenton from Newcastle and a strong Bede Academy from Blyth winning both games, before beating John Coates, Pontleland in the final.

“In an game that went from end to end John Coates opened the scoring with a good handling movement,” said Dougie Hall Berwick Rugby Club’s School’s Liason officer.

The boys were presented their medals by their international coaches at the end of the festival. This was a great experience for the boys, training and playing in front of the leading English Premiership players.
