Netball - Moody breaks ankle in narrow Berwick defeat

BERWICK went down to a narrow 40-39 defeat at the hands of Bedlington, but there was a further blow for the ladies when Marie Moody was carried from the court with a broken ankle.

The match started well for both sides. Berwick (C) Carlie Johnson settled into her new role for the night and gave excellent distribution of the ball to the attacking players, giving Black (GA) and Thomson (GS) excellent opportunities to score. Bedlington worked equally as hard and first quarter finished two goals apart.

The next two quarters it was even stevens all the way. Berwick’s defence were kept on their toes against the speed of Bedlington, Their (WA) was very strong and agile and helped feed the ball into the circle with ease. At the end of the third quarter Berwick had only edged two goals ahead of the home side.

Berwick needed to up their game to keep control but disaster struck with only minutes to go, Berwick’s(WA) Marie Moody landed badly fracturing her ankle, so with no subs available Berwick were down to six players. They battled away to grab a few last minute goals but it wasn’t to be , Bedlington snatched a goal in the last dying seconds and won the match 40-39. Well fought game by both sides.

Player of the match went to Kerry Thomson (GS)
