Margaret set for the world finals
2013 Scottish Senior Champions Women. Great last end by Team Cannon (pictured left) of Margaret Richardson, Margaret Robertson and Janet Lindsay gave them a steal of two for victory.
LOCAL curler Margaret Robertson is preparing to compete in her first world curling finals next month.
The farmer’s wife from East Ord, Berwick was the lead in the team which won the Scottish Seniors Championships at Hamilton at the weekend, and now she is on her way to Fredericton in Canada for the finals in March.
“I just can’t believe it,” said Margaret. “I honestly throught my chances of playing at that level had passed. I have been to the world finals twice before as a coach, but this will be my first time as a player.
“It will make me so proud to wear the blue jacket of Scotland.”
Margaret was invited to play in the rink, skipped by Christine Cannon from Stranraer, after the pair had clashed in opposing sides in the past.
“It was touch and go if we would make it,” she said. “In the final we trailed all the way through, but we played the perfect last end and stole it at the death.
“Going to Canada will be a tremendous experience. The men will also be playing, as well as the world mixed doubles, so there should be a great atmosphere.”
