Hockey - defeat for Berwick Ladies

Berwick v Newcastle Medics hockey match at Berwick Acadamy

Berwick v Newcastle Medics hockey match at Berwick Acadamy

Berwick Ladies 1, Medics 1sts 4 - BERWICK started off well playing a good attacking game in the first half. With many attempts at goal from Haley Garland, Michelle Stewart and Carly Robertson, these were unsuccessful but the team were keen to keep trying for a well-deserved goal.

The hard work paid off when Stewart made a break from the half way line and drove the ball into the D where Garland sent it past the keeper into the back of the goal.

Berwick were 1-0 up and determined to keep in front. They stayed strong and kept the pressure on with many runs in midfield by Linzi Hogg and Katy Lauder making a very speedy skilful run, allowing more attempts at goal from Stewart.

Medics’ defence stayed solid making it hard for Berwick to keep possession and the visitors broke for an equaliser when they netted from the rebound after goalkeeper Emily Jeffrey ran from her line to try and close the angle.

Medics came back strong in the second half, but Elaine Younger and Corrin Williamson with her strong sweeping, cleared any attempts at goal.

They took the lead following some miscommunication between Berwick and the umpire.

After this their heads dropped and they went on to concede another two goals as the Newcastle side finished on a high.
