Athletics - Silver for Cox at cross country

Nathan Cox, a pupil at Berwick Academy, was in outstanding form at the weekend in the East District cross country championships held at Cupar.

Nathan finished in the silver medal position in the U15 boys, just behind one of GB’s top junior runners, Ben Greenwood of Perth Strathtay. Nathan also picked up a team silver running for Gala Harriers.

His team mate, Andrew Hogg, a pupil at Longridge Towers, finished in a fine seventh place in theU13 boys and will still be eligible for next year’s race.

Nathan and Andrew are now almost certain to represent the East of Scotland cross country team in the prestigious Holyrood cross country series on January 5 where the major race of the day attracts some of the worlds greatest cross country runners including Mo Farah and Kenise Bekele.

NORHAM RUNNING CLUB: Four Norham Running Club members travelled to Rothbury last Sunday for the Simonside Cairns Fell Race. This is one of the last fell races of the year and the icy underfoot condition saw the route altered to avoid icy steps and slabs at the top of Simonside. This shortened the normal 11 mile and 1770 ft climb route by about 0.5 miles.

The in form Bill Pikett was first Norham runner finishing 24th in 1 hour 29 minutes and 21 seconds. The other Norham runners were Tim McCall 30th in 1.31.45, Euan Walker 40th in 1.36.19 and Steve Clough 84th in 1.57.52.
