Northern Alliance - Forrest strikes to earn a point for Wooler
Football
Wooler 1, Wideopen 1
THIS top of the table clash finished with the points shared with both teams effectively cancelling each other out in this keenly contested match.
Wooler had the best of the opening exchanges with both Mark Forrest and James Scott coming close to scoring. Wideopen looked dangerous on the break and after 20 minites it looked like their centre forward had scored but his strike hit the cross bar.
The breakthrough came after 30 minutes when a Jamie Punton free-kick was deflected off the wall into the path of Forrest who saw his looping header elude the Wideopen keeper.
Wideopen hit back almost immediately when Lee Shillicoe scored a tap-in after a corner kick eluded the Wooler defence.
The second half saw Wooler press for a winning goal and James Jefferys on the left wing was the most effective attacking option. The home team created a succession of goal scoring opportunities but Forrest, Scott, Bertram and Jefferys could not get their shots on target.
Any Wideopen attacks were ably dealt with by Tom Martin and Craig Henderson in the Wooler defence and the last 20 minutes of the match were a bit of a none event with both teams seeming to
be content to settle for the draw in the end.
