Lack of points is a concern for boss Little
BERWICK manager Ian Little had mixed emotions after watching his side go down to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of league leaders Rangers at Shielfield on Saturday.
Once again Little had to admit his players had turned in ‘a very good performance,’ but not for the first time in recent weeks he also had to concede the lack of any points was a worry.
After the Rangers’ game Berwick had only taken two points out of a possible 12 and found themselves hovering only two points off the bottom.
But in a very tight league Berwick are only eight points off the play-off places, with games in hand.
“I can’t go on saying this every week,” said Little, “but we played well. The players gave everything, but again we took nothing from the game and it is starting to become a concern.
“We have six games coming up in the next three weeks when we catch up on postponements. We must kick on from here and start winning matches if we are to stay in touch with the sides chasing the end of season play-offs.”
The first of Berwick’s rearranged fixtures was against Elgin at Shielfield on Tuesday.
The other re-arranged games are also at home, against Stirling Albion (March 5) and Queens Park (March 12).
Berwick were without the suspended pairing of Kevin McDonald and Stevie Notman for the Rangers game following their double sending off at Queen’s Park the previous week.
McDonald also missed the Elgin match, whilst Notman is also due to miss this Saturday’s away fixture at Annan.
“It’s a difficult time with suspensions,” admitted Little, “but we just have to get on with it.
“I thought we did well against Rangers, particularly in the first half.
“We might have had a penalty and of course itn was disappointing to lose a goal so soon after we had scored and again a minute into injury time.
“But Rangers are not top of the table for nothing. They are a good side and showed their quality by coming from behind like they did.”
Defender Chris Townsley added: “I thought we played reasonably well, but Rangers are a big, strong side. We have to take the positives from the game and move on because we have a vital spell coming up. If we remain positive we can still climb the table.”
