Hogg’s opener came from the penalty spot after Leon Midgley, handed a rare start, was brought down in the box. He then doubled the advantage when a corner was cleared and the ball landed at his feet on the edge of the area.
Midgley then hit the bar before Athletic pulled a goal back through Waterson, who netted at the second attempt after his original shot was blocked.

Hide AdMeanwhile, on Sunday, Alnwick Town Ladies were in action in the NE Women’s League at home to Norton & Stockton Reserves.
Alnwick were in dominant form and won the match with a convincing 8-0 scoreline.
Michelle Stewart was the star of the show, bagging five of the Alnwick goals, with the others coming from Emily Henderson, Becky Robinson and Ash Grisdale.
