BERWICK have confirmed that they will go into their opening meeting of the season without one of their top riders.

Kozza Smith will be unavailable for the first leg of a challenge match against Edinburgh at Armadale on Friday, March 29 because he will be racing with his Elite League club King’s Lynn instead.

However, the Bandits have stressed that their fans need not worry.

The popular Aussie, who missed the whole of last season with a broken thigh, will be back in their colours for the return at Shielfield just 24 hours later.

A spokesman said: “Berwick have first call on Kozza for official meeting and it is with Edinburgh’s blessing that we are able to use a guest at Armadale.”

Meanwhile, Berwick have revealed that there will be a number of changes introduced to their race-nights at Shielfield.

The official parade of riders, with bikes, will return for the first time in several years.

“This is what the fans have told us they would like to see and so we have decided to impliment it again,” said team manager Ian Rae.

“Letting the riders out with their bikes on parade also lets them get a feel for the track before their first race.”

Joining the Berwick presentation team this season will be local man and part time DJ, Steven Hayward.

Admission prices for the season have also been set, but these will show a slight increase on what was originally advertised.

The club had planned to cut admission prices to £12 for the 2013 season, but following a board meeting it has been decided these will now be set at £13 for adults, effective from the first meeting on March 30..

Director/Promoter John Anderson commented:”This still makes us one of the chespest clubs in the UK and is still £1.50 below the admission fees at the start of 2012.

“We hope fans will appreciate that this was a decision we did not take lightly and that they will still feel that they are getting a very good deal from Berwick.”

Other charges for concessions will remain the same, as will the price of the programme (£2) although there will be a change in its appearance, taking on a slightly bigger form - B5 as opposed to A4.

Steven is well known to most Berwick fans in hosting the end of season function and forum in December and can cover either centre green or box duties.
