BERWICK Speedway Supporters’ Club are to launch a new ‘Hall of Fame’ and the first inductees will be honoured at a dinner early in the new year.

First to be recognised will be the Taylor family, who first introduced the sport to Shielfield in 1968.

A statement issued by the club this week said: “Without Danny and Elizabeth Taylor there would certainly be no Berwick Bandits in 2012, and for this reason alone it was agreed they must be recognised first and foremost.

“Their hard work and foresight made it all possible, and all the hard work of their family continued the dream.”

In later years their son Kenny took over the reigns and he is still a frequent visitor to the track,

Also set to be honoured are two former captains - Rob Grant and Alan Mogridge.

Grant spent over ten years with the club, both at Shielfield and Berrington Lough.

He is still involved with training youngsters and his son, Rob junior, also went on to become a rider.

‘Moggo’ was brought to the club by former promoter Peter Waite and was quite simply one of the most spectacular riders seen around the Border track.

The club said: “Alan delighted the crowds during his time at Berwick and was a fans’ favourite. He was also a superb team man who helped all his team mates.”

A special dinner to launch the ‘Hall of Fame’ will be held in the Black and Gold on Saturday, March 9.

Following the dinner and presentation there will be a disco and tickets, priced at £20, are available from Derek Wilson on 07872073971 or Lisa Youngman on 07773759864.
