Bandits confirm ‘associate sponsors’

BERWICK have this week confirmed a number of ‘associate sponsors’ for the new season, but are still on the hunt for a major team backer.

In a statement issued by the club on Tuesday director George Hepburn said:

“We have been able to tie up half a dozen ‘Associate Sponsors’ for season 2013.

“This is very positive news and we thank the individuals and firms concerned for their support to Berwick Speedway.

“We have others interested too in similar deals and it makes us feel much happier and positive as the season approaches.”

Earlier in the week Bandits issued another statement in which they said they are still looking for a major sponsor.

They said they are ‘talking to interested parties,’ but as of yet nothing has been confirmed.

Promoter John Anderson said: “We are talking to interested parties but we have no deal sorted out at this moment, and I can only reiterate previous comments made by us that it simply would not be economically viable for us to take to the track in 2013 without this proper funding in place.

“Time is catching up on us so I’d ask anyone still interested in coming forward as a sponsor - or indeed with ideas and the like to get in touch as soon as possible to see what we can offer you in return.”

Berwick has already been confirmed as the venue for the BEN Fund Bonanza meeting, which will be held at Shielfield on Saturday, March 9, whilst they have also been awarded the British round of the World U21 Final on August 10.

Meanwhile, Berwick’s Ricky Ashworth is the latest rider to be added to the list of names for the BEN Fund Bonanza meeting at Shielfield on March 9. And the on-loan Bandit is hoping to use the meeting as a springboard to better things with the club in 2013.

Ashworth missed the last two months of the 2012 season with a broken shoulder, but he is well on the road to recovery and is itching to get back in the saddle again.

“I had a spin at Scunthorpe a couple of weeks ago and it felt good to be back on a bike again,” he said.

“Hopefully injuries will not play a big part of our season like they did last year, because Berwick look to have assembled a well balanced side.

“Teams I’ve been with in the past have usually had a weak pairing somewhere, but this one is pretty solid all the way through – as many Premier League teams look this season, it looks a really competitive league.

“I’m very happy to be back at Berwick, there was really only one track I wanted to be at. They really looked after me well last year and I felt at home straight away.

“I love the track and the fans and the support we get on the road is tremendous. Full credit to the promotion for doing all they can. It’s a great track and hopefully we can get the fans flooding back.”
