Andy Clark Pairs at Tweedmouth

TWEEDMOUTH BC recently held their Andy Clark Open Pairs competition and again a large entry saw all three of the local greens being used, and thanks go to Berwick and Spittal for allowing Tweedmouth
to use their facilities for the competition. Once again all three greens played really well and credit goes to all the green staff for the condition of playing surfaces.
The winners of the day were Brian Lennon of Tweedmouth and George Douglas of Spittal, beating Eddie Skelly of Tweedmouth and recent Spowart winner Campbell McNeil of Eyemouth in a well contested final played mostly under floodlights.
Semi finalists were M and J Bolton of Chirnside and J Curtis of Summerhill with P Docherty of Morpeth St George.
Mrs Shirley Hope representing the sponsors, Hopes Newsagents, presented the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Tweedmouth would once again like to thank all sponsors of their competitions and all who have played in their competitions.

Spowart Cup

THE Spowart Cup,the traditional August bank holiday Monday singles competition, was once again well supported at Tweedmouth and there was no shortage of good quality bowling, making for some very close matches.
None more so than the final which was eventually won by Campbell McNeil of Eyemouth BC, by just one shot, beating a very competitive Finlay Donaldson of Gordon.
The weather held out all day until just shortly after the players left the green and then the heavens opened.
The beaten semi-finalists were B Patterson of Spittal and J Dickie of Hawick.
Tweedmouth would like thank Dougie and Terri Flannigan of Berwick Shellfish Co for their most generous sponsorship.
* FRASER Campbell prevailed in the mens club championship at Tweedmouth, beating a rejuvenated and former champion Brian Holloway, whilst in the ladies championship, Shirley Hope overcame a strong challenge from Belle Meakin who was playing in her first championship final.

Wooler Open Pairs

THE September Open Pairs competition at Wooler was sponsored by Trotters Family Bakers (main sponsors), Graham Cross Contractor, TR Johnson Butchers, The Milan Restaurant, Redpath Tyres, and Richardson's Auto Repairs - all generously contributing to the success of the event.
It was another day of good bowling with 32 pairs taking part in the round robin competition in groups of four. A chilly start contrasted with some heated bowling, and the warmth of some friendly banter. Despite the morning's showers, the players all performed to a very high standard.
Three Amble pairs, and one from Backworth, made it through to the semi-finals.
Winners were Bob and Joan Davison (husband and wife) of Backworth Bowling Club. They were undefeated thoughout the day - dropping only a single point with a draw in their opening game.
Runners up David and Ryan Wilkinson (father and son) of Amble had beaten Tom Murray and Ken Stewart also of Amble (after shots tied) in the extra end of their semi-final. The winners beat another Amble pair Jim Gray and Doug Mossman in the other semi-final.
Prizes were presented by Wooler president Rob Donkin.
* The Glendale club look forward to the closing of their own green on Saturday 19 - when the annual Ladies v Mens match will conclude Wooler's playing season.
The club's presentation night at The Wheatsheaf Hotel, Wooler will be held on Saturday, October 10 and the AGM (scheduled for Wednesday, October 21) is expected to see some new faces elected as officers and committee members.
All club members are encouraged to attend these functions, both to recognise this season's achievements and to decide how the Club should go forward.
