Renton fifth in national badminton rankings
A FORMER Berwick woman is currently fifth in the English national rankings.
Sarah Renton, who now lives in Newcastle, has amassed over 13,000 ranking points, which is a remarkable achievement, bearing in mind that she has only competed in eight ranking events.
Earlier this year, the former Berwick schoolgirl competed in the North East Championships at Benwell where she reached three finals. She won the ladies singles and mixed doubles and was a runner-up in the ladies doubles.
A former policewoman, Sarah has also worked as a football coach in America, and she is currently a non-teaching head of year at the George Stephenson High School in Newcastle.
She has also been captain of the Newcastle United ladies football team, and at 30 years of age has made two comebacks in badminton.
In 2006 she won events in Leicester and York. In 2007 she won in Harrogate and York and for the past three years she has been Northumberland champion.
In 2007 and 2008 she has also made the 'national circuit' finals.
