BERWICK put up a spirited effort when they entertained Premiership opposition at Scremerston.
Melrose brought a strong squad for this Border League clash and it was no surprise when they ran out comfortable winners.
The visitors ran in four tries in the first half to lead 24-0 at the break, followed by a further five in the second period, as the home side tired late on in the game.
It was not all one-way traffic, however, as Berwick enjoyed several spells of possession deep in the Melrose 22 testing the visitors' resolve, but they could force their way over the line for the score their efforts deserved.
