A 'NEW' club has been set up in Berwick.
Berwick Town will officially replace the now defunct Berwick Harrow and will effectively take over their position in the North Northumberland League.
The club have ambitious plans to move through the leagues and establish themselves in the Northern Alliance.
Berwick Town have assembled an experienced coaching team with many years experience in the North Northumberland, Northern Alliance and East of Scotland leagues.
Player-manager will be Carl Hudson, who has been around the amateur football game now for while and spent many successful seasons at Spittal Rovers during their highs in the Northern Alliance Premier league.
He has also spent time at the highest level in the East of Scotland with Coldstream FC when they were promoted in season 2006/07 to the Premier league.
His enthusiasm and commitment rub off on the people and players around him and ideas picked up during his time in the senior game with Bradford City also make him an ideal role model for younger players. He will expect the maximum from all at the club this season.
Hudson's assistant will be Andrew Gibson, whilst coaches will be Colin Gracey, the ex-Coldstream manager, and Davie Buglass, who spent some time previously with Spittal Rovers.
Berwick Town has already assembled a decent squad of players, including several who turned out last season for Berwick Rangers Reserves, and others who played for Coldstream.
Goalkeepers are: Dean Avery, Steven Mason and Robert Reap;
Defenders are: Kieran Ainslie, Richard Baxendale, Jordan Ainslie, Alan Jess, Carl Hudson, Ben Punton, Stuart Payne, Stuart Greenlees, Peter Greenlees and Ian Rurtherford;
Midfielders are: Lee Lambert, Aaron Punton, Stuart Bloomfield, Darren Flannigan, Terry James, Kieran Laverty, Martyn Tait, Stuart Coyle, Leigh Lindsay, Thiago Ferreira, David Shields, Scott Pithie, Michael Antcliff, Ben Purvis, Kristian Neil;
Strikers are: Sean Simpson, Andrew Gibson, Michael Sherry and Jamie Punton.
The club's new website www.berwicktownfc.co.uk says: "Berwick Town were formed as a new club in June 2008 taking over the set up and infrastructure from the previous Berwick Harrow FC.
"The new club have been established with one clear goal – 'to provide the best amateur football experience in the town for young footballers.'
"The club will initially run two squads in the North Northumberland Football divisions, with the goal to progress in the shortest possible time up through the Northern Alliance.
"The playing staff will consist of the current Berwick Harrow squad and well as a number of new players from the East of Scotland with playing experience at Coldstream FC and Berwick Rangers.
"Coaching of the players is critical and the coaching staff will bring a range of new ideas and concepts into the development of the squads.
"Finally the ambition to provide the best playing experience for amateur football players will ensure that the club will be run on a business-like footing. It has therefore also been critical in the set up to ensure a number of experienced football administrators have been invited to help in the design of the new club."
