THIS week a party of 21 Longridge Towers School pupils from across the Scottish Borders and north Northumberland, will embark on rugby tour to British Columbia, Canada.
With Captain Jack Webster and vice-captain Matthew Hislop, the team are accompanied by two members of staff.
Hudson Homes who are currently building The Grange development, in Castle Terrace, Berwick, have sponsored the kit for the rugby tour as well as supporting an earlier visit by the school's hockey players to South Africa.
The 12-day rugby tour involves four matches. Starting in Vancouver, it quickly moves on to Abbotsford for the first match against Yale Secondary School.
From there the party takes a ferry to Vancouver Island. From their base in Victoria, there will be two further games against Velox Rugby Club and Cowichan Rugby Club.
Whilst in Victoria, the pupils will visit the Royal BC museum, an ice hockey game of Salmon Kings v Utah, and watch humpback whales and orcas.
After their final fixture, the tour culminates with a visit to Grouse Mountain and the Capilano suspension bridge, which is 137m long and 70m above the canyon floor.
The support given by Hudson Homes to the sporting tours of Longridge Towers was seen by managing director, Jamie Hudson, of Peebles, as a natural partnership.
"Both Hudson Homes and Longridge provide quality products which compete with others in their fields and this is down to small, hard working teams, who strive for excellence."
Tim Manning, deputy head at Longridge Towers, added: "We are delighted to have been given the support of Hudson Homes for our 2008 rugby and hockey tours to Canada and South Africa.
"These tours give our pupils invaluable experience, both in rugby/hockey, but also wisdom in different cultures and values," he said.
