The two evenly matched teams produced an exciting game with Berwick having the better of the exchanges in the first half with shots from Clark and Grieve.
Early pressure from Wallsend at the start of the second half saw the home side take the lea
d. Berwick responded well and from a Grieve free kick the ball was fired into the box for Lee to finish well and draw the scores level. Ultimately the result was decided on two lapses in concentration, a misjudged save from Lambert in goal that fell to a Wallsend striker, and a mistimed header from Bowell that looped over Lambert for an own goal.
It was rough justice for both players who had produced fine individual performances. The Berwick defenders won the physical contest but the midfield and forwards could not break down a good Wallsend side. In summary; a lot of effort from Berwick with little reward.
