BERWICK travelled to Newcastle on Saturday to face the university first team.
Newcastle University I 6
Berwick 1

Berwick got off to a good start and put the home side under some early pressure. The university resisted the pressure and held the play in midfield.
Berwick looked the stronger team but could not break through
the strong defence. Unfortunately, the university took advantage of an unsuccessful Berwick advance and were the first to score from the break.
The visitors refused to give up and continued to pile on the pressure with some excellent movement up front.
A precise ball into the circle from Haley Garland found Denise Robertson who struck the ball past the keeper to draw the game level.
Berwick deserved to be ahead in the first half but were only denied by the university keeper, so the game remained tied for the break.
The second-half saw the roles reversed and the university came out fighting.
The pace up front in the home side caught Berwick off-guard and the hosts took the lead once again.
Berwick struggled to find the form of the first-half and the university took advantage, scoring in open play and then from a penalty corner.
At 4-1, the disheartened Berwick side couldn't seem to regroup and the university added two more to the score.
There was still time to play and Berwick tried hard to regain some dignity from the game with chances from Siobhan Murphy and Linzi Hogg being saved by the keeper.
At the final whistle Berwick were frustrated with the unflattering score and hope to come back to their determined spirit for next weekend.
