REDCAR BEARS ....51
BERWICK BANDITS ....41

BERWICK suffered their first league defeat of the season when they slipped to a ten point defeat at Redcar on Thursday.
The Bandits had hoped that new signing Benny Johansson would make his debut, but the Swede was caught up in heavy traffic on his way from the continent and did not arrive at the stadium.
As a result, Conference League rider Gary Beaton was drafted in at short notice. He took three rides but failed to score, and as the team was already using rider replacement for broken collarbone victim Guglielmo Franchetti, Berwick found themselves up against it from the start.
Tero Aarnio, Adrian Rymel and Michal Makovsky were all amongst the points, and they kept the Bandits in contention throughout, but with Norbert Magosi, Adam McKinna and Beaton all struggling the home side ran out comfortable winners.
Bears number one Gary Havelock was not as prolific as usual, but with James Grieves and Tyrone Proctor paid for 30 points between them, Redcar always looked the more likely winners.
Adrian Rymel won heat one for the Bandits, but the home side started to turn the screw and by heat nine they had established a 12-point lead at 33-21.
Michal Makovsky and Tero Aarnio reduced the deficit with a 5-1 in ten, and in 12 Makovsky was nominated for double points, but he was beaten by Grieves, a 3-5 scoreline taking Redcar to within sight of victory at 41-33.
Aarnio won heat 14 and Rymel also won his last ride, taking his tally for the night to 11.
But Redcar always kept them at arms length and eventually ran out ten-point winners.
Redcar - Proctor 15+1, Grieves 14, Bugeja 7+2, Havelock 7+1, Giffard 6+1, Auty 2; Berwick - Aarnio 13+2, Makovsky 11+1, Rymel 11, Magosi 3+1, McKinna 3, Beaton 0.
