BERWICK Sport & Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) is in the process of putting together a coach education programme for the Berwick area.
In a letter which has gone out to local sports clubs this week, Sports Development Officer Paul Jones says:
"As no doubt you are aware, one of the biggest problems we have in the area is finding people to deliver sport. To deliver to children coach
es should have a minimum of a Level 2 coaching qualification in that sport.
"As part of our sports development program, Berwick SPAA is looking to identify individuals who would be interested in delivering sports coaching. The plan is to develop these individuals in three different sports up to Level 2, paid for by the SPAA. The SPAA is then looking to place these people into an environment, perhaps in a club or in schools to gain work experience for two months, this commitment would then repay the various course costs.
"Then the idea is through various different schemes we would be able to hire these coaches to deliver their sports throughout the area. Delivery would be in school PE lessons, after school clubs, local sports clubs, summer activity programs etc.
"In addition to offering potential career opportunities in sports coaching, this would be a fantastic opportunity for your club to gain additional coaches at little financial cost to your club."
Anyonee interested in the scheme is asked to contact: Paul Jones, Sports Development Officer via email: paj@berwick-upon-tweed.gov.uk
