Woman suffers significant injuries in 15ft cliff fall at Collywell Bay

A large amount of emergency services joined together to help a woman who had fallen 15 ft at Seaton Sluice.

At around midnight on Thursday, December 5, Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team, Blyth RNLI and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were called with reports that a woman had fallen around 15 ft at Collywell Bay, Seaton Sluice and sustained significant injuries.

Nothumbria Police and the North East Ambulance service sent teams to the scene and Blyth’s D-Class Lifeboat was brought against the sea wall to transfer the woman via a stretcher.

A spokesperson for Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade said: “During the incident support was received from Northumberland and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Services, with the area illuminated by a police helicopter making the scene much safer for the approximate 50 emergency service personnel who assisted the casualty.”

A Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was stood down once the casualty was safely in the ambulance.
