Emergency teams were called out to rescue a yacht in difficulty off Northumberland this morning (Sunday).

The all-weather lifeboat from Berwick RNLI was launched and three Coastguard teams - from Berwick, Holy Island and Eyemouth - were scrambled after the yacht's propeller had become snared in rope a mile south of Berwick.

The lifeboat was launched at 9.15am and the yacht was freed by 10am and then towed safely into Berwick.

A Coastguard spokesman said: "The yacht crew did exactly what they should have done by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard. Everyone is safe and well - that is exactly the outcome we want, particularly on a bank holiday weekend."
