Pupils get stamp of approval from Royal Mail

Berwick Middle School pupils Rowan McAlpine and Owen Matthews, both 10, were presented with prizes by Royal Mail after taking part in its Christmas stamp design competition.

Rowan was north east regional winner and one of 24 national finalists while Owen was a regional finalist.

The pair were presented with certificates and Smilers Stamps with Rowan’s own design on them. Rowan won £500 in vouchers and £500 for her school and Owen won £100 in vouchers and £100 for the school.

Royal Mail received more than 240,000 entries from children aged 4-11 across the UK in response to the question ‘What does the Christmas season mean to you?’
