A campaign has been launched to help deliver a funding boost to Northumberland’s schools after the Government announced plans for a new national education funding formula.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Conservative candidate for Berwick, welcomed the plans to address the way that money is unevenly and unfairly distributed between schools.
She said: “Some of the worst affected schools are in areas like North Northumberland. We have rightly complained for many years that they are being underfunded due to a complex and long- standing formula. The system skews funding towards urban areas which mean that our small rural schools in our local communities get a poor deal.”
Northumberland’s schools are in the bottom 30 nationally for funding per pupil.
