The Royal Voluntary Service is seeking volunteers to help provide a lunch club in the town for older people.

Royal Voluntary Service (formerly WRVS) provides a range of services for older people across Northumberland, from help with transport through the Getabout Scheme to Social Day Centres in Berwick and Wooler. These services are vital in keeping older residents connected and active in the community.

In Berwick, Royal Voluntary Service currently runs a coffee morning every Tuesday at the William Elder Building on Castlegate from 10am–12noon. It offers a chance to come along, meet new people and enjoy a range of activities, from dominoes to exercise to music and much more. Everyone over 50 from the Berwick area is welcome, and transport can be arranged.

Diane Dakers, service assistant for the Royal Voluntary Service, said: “Our organisation could not run without the fantastic volunteers we have. We are keen to expand our services in Berwick and run a fuller day every Tuesday including serving lunch, as we do successfully in Wooler on a Monday and Thursday.

“To do this we urgently need more volunteers of any age who are able to spare a few hours on a Tuesday to help.”

For more information on volunteering opportunities and service information, please call the Wooler Hub on 01668 260248.
