Former Olympic long-distance runner and athletics commentator Brendan Foster switched on the Christmas lights in Bamburgh with his three-year-old granddaughter Florrie.

The village had a new addition to its festive decorations in the form of life-size wood carvings of the nativity scene sculpted by Ross McNeil.

Residents also gathered at St Aidan’s Church for a Christmas church service followed by the big switch on outside on Saturday night.
