PC Andy Clark told Wooler Parish Council about a recent achievement in a personal capacity that helped a worthy cause.
As part of the ‘Toon to Town’ fundraisers, Andy, together with Berwick police Duncan Budge, John Swan and retired Steve Flook, cycled from London to Berwick.
Andy had prepared for the arduous ride by taking part in the Wooler Wheel earlier this year.
The Berwick contingent arrived at the Town Hall steps on Saturday September 14 to the cheers of a small, but enthusiastic, band of supporters.
The Toon-to-Towners have now raised over £20,000 this year for a number of charities and have a commitment to Help for Heroes until 2015 in achieving the group’s goal of raising £100,000 over a 5-year period.
Andy set himself the target of raising £2,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
Through his fund raising site (http://www.justgiving.com/AndyClark904), he has now raised £7,627 , which he described as “a fabulous amount”.
The riders also raised over £1,000 for Parkinson’s research, and other funds went to Help for Heroes.
Andy says the team have their sights set on a ride home from Llanelli next year: “We’d like to thank everybody who supported us and who gave.”
