Berwick retailers have responded well to the challenge of a best dressed Christmas window competition.
The contest, being run by Berwick town team, has attracted 144 entries from shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and businesses.
The judging for the shortlisted windows was held at the weekend with the judges – The Mayor, Chairman of Berwick Chamber of Commerce and President of Berwick Rotary, enjoying three hours walking the streets in order to assess everyone’s window.
Businesses were judged initially in defined street areas with the following being shortlisted:
Tweedmouth: Buds Flower Shop
Bridge Street: Norman Hargreaves Electrical; The Market shop; Cookcraft
Hide Hill / Sandgate: Needleworks; Bella B; Lime Shoe Shop
Church Street: Maureens; Fairbairns Furniture
Marygate including Walkergate: Serendipity; Brewers Arms; NE Mobility
West Street: Regalo; Tyne & Tweed Mortgages; Hair Boutique
Castlegate: Pier Red; White Swan House; Charles Mace
Chris Hardie, town team acting chairman, said: “The Berwick town team now asks the public to come shopping in Tweedmouth and Berwick town centre, taking advantage of the free parking and enjoying the excellent Christmas windows on display.
“We also remind you to go into your favourite premises and vote for them using the sheets behind the counter.”
Voting enters you into a draw for £100 to spend in participating premises and helps the judges make their final choice of the winner, announced next week.
