A facebook page set up to unite the people of Wooler, both past and present, has attracted over a thousand members in just two weeks.
The Wooler and district memories for all group is a place where people with any connection to the town can share photographs and memories from days gone by.
Set up by former resident Ursula Murray in late January, the page has members from all corners of the globe; Africa, America, New Zealand, Australia and Italy.
Photographs posted include the high street between 1900-1920 and the College Valley in 1935, as well as ‘class of’ pictures from Glendale and Milfield Schools.
“I’ve been absolutely blown away by the response,” Ursula told the Advertiser.
“Rothbury, Alnwick and Berwick have a page, and I thought ‘I wonder if I dare set one up for Wooler?’ My father was a Wooler guy and I was brought up in Milfield. I had a lot of photographs from the area, but I wasn’t sure if there would be enough people.”
But since she set up the group it’s been a hive of activity. “It seems to be bringing a lot of pleasure to a lot of folk,” Ursula said. “It’s social history there for all to see, and it’s great bringing people together.”
