Kelso father and son team, Ron and Robert Wilson once again took the Hereford Cattle Society’s Herd of the Year title, for the eighth time in nine years. The society’s David Deacon said: “This award highlights the strength in depth of the large Romany Herd, as points are only awarded to an animal from one showing.”
The accolade last week came in the wake of the breeders of Cowbog, Morebattle making the top price for females at the society’s autumn show and sale in Hereford earlier this month when Welsh farmer G H Morgan of Fardre Herefords paid 4,700 guinea for the Wilsons’ 11-month old Romany 1 Julia RE K61.
A further three 13 month old Romany heifers – Gypsy ST K39 by Spurstow 1 Star Bright Future sold for 3,600 gns; Julia D1 K25 by SMH Castro sold for 2,700 gns. and Dawn ST K40, another Star Bright Future daughter sold for 1,900 gns - were all purchased by P. Murphy, Wychnor Herefords, Wychnor, Staffordshire.
Two more heifers from the same home, 11 month old Romany 1 Mink D1 K57 by Castro and 11 month old Dawn ST K64 by Star Bright Future sold for 2,700 gns. and 2,400 gns respectively to N. Warburton, Larkins Bank Herefords, Crewe, Cheshire.
