Belford Parish Council is close to signing a document to ensure that, if Energiekontor get the go ahead to build a nine-turbine wind farm at Belford Burn, money from the community fund would benefit the village.
However, this does not mean that the parish council is supporting the scheme. Council chair Brenda Stanton said: “It is not because we are stating in anyway that we are in favour of it. We are remaining neutral until after the public meeting.
“If we sign the document it’s because Energiekontor have to have someone to sign. It doesn’t mean that we are backing it, it’s just an insurance for the community that should it go through the money would come to Belford, not somewhere further out like Alnwick or Berwick.” Coun Geoff O’Connell added: “It’s not committing us one way or another, it’s merely part of the planning process.”
Should the Belford Burn scheme be approved, Belford would benefit from £310,000 per year, a total of around £7.5million over 25 years.
