Police are warning thieves they are putting themselves at risk by stealing live electrical cable.

It happened between 8am, on Wednesday, January 15, and 4pm, on Thursday, January 16, when copper wires were stolen from the junction ends of the top of telegraph poles in Powburn.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area or who witnessed people at the top of telegraph poles, to get in touch with police.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “This was an extremely dangerous thing to do and those involved are putting their lives at risk, not only by climbing heights but also by cutting live electrical cables.

“I’d urge anyone who knows who is involved or who has information to get in touch with us a soon as possible.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 1031 16/01/14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
