Sir Alan Beith will celebrate his 40th anniversary as Berwick MP at a thank-you event for helpers and supporters, past and present, at the Northumberland Hall in Alnwick next month.
In November he will have represented the constituency of Berwick for 40 years.
Sir Alan said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve as the MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed for forty years. I am looking forward to nearly two years of working for Northumberland and to working with a new candidate for 2015, who will be chosen by all our local party members.
“To celebrate my 40th anniversary as an MP, I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to everybody who has helped out and supported me over the years. I have always been thankful to see so many people giving their time and energy to my campaigns and to have so many people up and down the constituency giving me their support.”
The event on October 11 is due to kick off at 11am. Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg MP will be coming along to pay tribute to Sir Alan, along with a range of MPs and Peers.
