Invaluable information for beekeepers of all levels has been pulled together in a new book about the craft.

Willie Robson of Chain Bridge Honey Farm has published ‘Reflections on Beekeeping’ to discuss problems which have recently beset the craft of beekeeping worldwide, and also to give some detailed information about the pitfalls that might be faced by aspiring as well as experienced beekeepers.

“Some of this information is very technical but there is a comprehensive glossary within for those who might not understand the terminology,” said Mr Robson, whose family have been engaged in commercial beekeeping at Chain Bridge for three generations.

“The main theme throughout is stockmanship and understanding nature through acute observation, intuition and practical experience gained by two generations.”

The book features chapters on beekeeping problems, chemicals and honeybees and nutrition, as well as characteristics of different breeds of bees, swarming, and heather honey production.

Not without humour, Reflections on Beekeeping (£9.95) includes valuable information that all beekeepers will find of use, particularly now that bees are finding it even more difficult to survive.

Published by Northern Bee Books, it is available from.chainbridgehoney.co.uk and other retailers.
