The Glendale Gateway Trust has adopted a living wage policy.
The move will affect three staff who move up to £7.65 an hour. The current minimum wage for over 21s is £6.31 an hour.
“It wasn’t easy for us financially, but we just knew it was the right thing to do” said Patsy Healey, chairman of the Glendale Gateway Trust.
“Glendale is a low-wage area, and we wanted to set a good example to other employers in the area,” she added.
Mrs Healey said many employers nationally were worried about job losses when the minimum wage was introduced, but it just didn’t happen.
“I expect the same is true of the living wage. If everyone in Glendale was on the living wage or higher it would make a real difference to the area,” she said.
The Trust has registered with the Living Wage Foundation in London. A total of 432 employers are now signed up to the campaign – up from 78 this time last year.
