Ord House Country Park in Berwick has won a pair of prestigious awards thanks to the votes of magazine readers.
The East Ord-based park won Best Year-Round Caravan Park and North East regional winner of the Haymarket Practical Caravan & Practical Motorhome Top 100 sites awards.
Owner Billy Maguire of Maguires Country Parks said: “We’re delighted to have won and are very proud of the team at Ord House who have worked so hard to make this achievement possible.”
His son, Gilbert, added: “It’s a very prestigious award and very difficult to win so we’re ecstatic about it. We couldn’t have done it without our fantastic team and our brilliant customers whose positive reviews made the awards happen. Thank you to you all!”
They are the latest in a long line of awards for Ord House. It is part of the Best of British group representing the Top 50, 5 Star Caravan Parks in the UK and is a perennial finalist in the North East England Tourism Awards.
The team at Ord House are also in the process of compiling old memorabilia and photos which they plan to frame and display in the reception areas. If you have anything you’d like to contribute, please let them know or post the pictures on their facebook page.
Meanwhile, to encourage new bookings, their new TV advert will be broadcast for the first time on March 7.
Ord House Country Park, which features areas designated to holiday homes, lodges, touring caravans and tents, is located in the grounds of Ord House Manor, built originally for Admiral Godolfin Osborne in 1789. It is set in 44 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens.
Members of the Osborne family lived at Ord House until 1954, when the estate was sold to George Marshall, manager of the former Walter Willson store in Berwick. Within two years George had quit his job, bought out his partners and created a holiday park that was to be his pride and joy for 40 years, until his death in 1991.
The Maguire family purchased the park from George’s son, Howard, in 2003 and have continued to make improvements, improving shower blocks and playgrounds, landscaping and the roads, but maintaining Ord House as a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing country park.
