The Fire Brigades Union has announced that it plans to take further strike action.

The strikes will take place from: Thursday 12th June from 9am until 9am Friday 13th June and on Saturday 21st June from 10am until 5pm.

Residents and businesses are being reminded that the latest industrial action will stretch over 24 hours, longer than previous strikes.

And although Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service has robust plans in place to provide a service during this latest period of strike action – they stress this will not be business as usual.

The service has already contacted businesses in the county to help them to minimise the risk from fire, as well as urging residents to take steps to protect themselves and their homes from the risks of fire and other emergencies.

Alex Bennett, chief fire officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We have a duty to ensure we have robust plans in place to provide a fire and rescue response during industrial action, and we are putting these plans in place.

“We must stress that it will not be business as usual however, and homes and businesses should take extra precautions. Everyone should also note the strike on Thursday will last for a full 24 hours.”

“We are urging people to take steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from the risks of fire, including ensuring they have working smoke alarms fitted in their homes.

“We have contacted businesses and other premises to assist them in further minimising the risk from fire and other emergencies.”
