Wooler’s newest parish councillor was decided in last Thursday’s by-election.
Michael Aitchison, the Conservative candidate, defeated Labour’s Joyce Guthrie by around two votes to one.
The turnout was just under 35 per cent.
In his pre-election material, Mr Aitchison campaigned on three central issues - ensuring the protection of subsidised bus services, encouraging the development of affordable homes to rent in areas of the town where people want to live and improving road and pavement maintenance.
He also highlighted the need for more facilities for younger people in the village as well as for the former Ferguson’s Yard to be redeveloped.
Mr Aitchison’s election to the council takes its membership back up to the full complement of 10 councillors.
