Tributes have been paid to a long-serving member of Northumberland County Council who has died.

John Taylor, who served as a councillor for more than 28 years, died peacefully at home, aged 77.

Councillor Taylor was a retired farmer and estate manager who has held a number of offices including that of chairman of the former Alnwick District Council.

He served on the district council from 1986 until 2009 and has been a serving member of Northumberland County Council since 2001, most recently serving as chairman of the north area planning committee.

Living at Denwick, he has also been a parish councillor for his ward.

Members across Northumberland County Council have paid warm tributes to Councillor Taylor.

Councillor Grant Davey, leader of Northumberland County Council said: “We are very saddened to hear the news of Cllr Taylor’s death.

“He was a long-standing and much valued councillor who has made a huge contribution to his ward, to the former Alnwick District Council, and more recently to Northumberland County Council. He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues and friends at Northumberland.”
