He was worried that due to funding his season might be over before it’d begun but after some fundraising biker Liam Shipperlee is ready for the off.

Fourteen year old Liam, from Goswick, made quite an impression on motorbike tracks around Scotland last season, finishing first in his final race but with fuel and transport costs to and from different events mounting up, before even considering his bike itself, Liam, his mum Lara and step dad George were faced with the very real prospect of having to throw the towel in.

But determined to build on his form from last year, Berwickshire High pupil Liam set about thinking of how he could try and raise some money to help him continue to compete

His two ideas were a car wash at The Cat Inn, which Lara and George run and a slightly more challenging cycle from the pub to East Fortune race track.

Liam set off about 10.15am on Sunday, April 6 and while he started off on the coast to castle route he and George lost the route and they ended up on the A1.

Amazingly after the mishap and a the 45 mile journey in wet and windy conditions, Liam arrived at East Fortune full of energy and completed the cycle with a lap of the track, taking the chequered flag as he did.

Liam, Lara and George would like to extend a huge thank you to customers and guests of The Cat Inn , friends and family who sponsored him and had their car washed.

The two events together raised in the region of £300, with more money still coming in, meaning that Liam, a member of Knockhill Motor Sports Club, has managed to kickstart his preparations for the season ahead and is now ready to race, rather aptly at East Fortune in next month.

He is still on the look out for a company to donate a van (with tow preferably) for his race weekend, lasting from Friday morning-Monday morning, and is still on the lookout for anyone wishing to sponsor him, in return for publicity such as their name on his bike.

If you’d be interested in helping Liam email info@thecatinnnorthumberland.com or ring The Cat Inn on (01289)387251.
