Plans to build 11 flats on Marygate are not detailed enough, according to Berwick Town Council’s planning committee.
Arboretum Village Property Co wants to demolish a former print workshop to make way for the flats behind Caffe Nero. But town councillors felt there was insufficient detail in the plans for them to comment on whether they wished to object to the scheme or not.
Coun Alex Gibson was in favour of the flats, believing they would enhance the area and provide much needed housing. But others raised concerns about water, the lack of parking, and bin storage. Storage for 11 bins would be provided, but there was no mention of the existing bins which currently take up space in the access ginnel.
In the end members felt they could not comment due to the lack of information available. Coun Alan Turnbull said: “I’m struggling with these plans. I’m comfortable with drawings, but there seems to be a massive lack of detail here.”
