HOLY ISLAND VILLAGE HALL. DAVID O'CONNOR AND CLIVE MASSEY WITH APPROVED MODEL OF THE VILLAGE HALL. The Village Hall will be rebuilt with funding from the National Lottery.

Construction work on Holy Island’s new village hall has been delayed. It had been hoped that work would get underway this spring.

Trustee David O’Connor said: “Despite a huge effort to source top-up funding for this vital community project, regretfully we have had to slow the project down.”

A grant of £500,000 from the Big Lottery Fund was received last year.

But Mr O’Connor revealed that while some fund providers have responded with grants and pledges, a fewer number have decline to help and some are still to make a decision.

“For example, one Trust has arranged to undertake an evaluation visit to the Island mid-April,” revealed David in the island ezine. “They then report back to their board with recommendations, all time consuming and bring us close to failing to comply with the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) terms & conditions. So we are seeking advice from the BLF.”
