Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird has thrown her support behind Northumbria Police’s crackdown on rural crime.
She said: “Rural crime is very much a priority for myself and Northumbria Police and I fully understand the impact it has on the county and its communities.
“In June I went with the Chief Constable to a public meeting in Berwick where we were able to listen first hand to the concerns people have.
“Tackling rural crime is vital and I know the force takes the issue very seriously working with partners and local communities to tackle it and bring reassurance to the people who live and work in our fabulous county.”
She added: “I am committed to ensuring that Northumbria Police continues to work with communities to ensure concerns are fully addressed and action taken against those who try to disrupt people’s way of life.
“Through the Farm Watch scheme we can help people keep their property safe and provide them with advice if they see anything suspicious.”
